Community Campaign Website Design

Case study: a website for Save Cowal's Hills, a community campaign against windfarm proposals on the Cowal peninsula, built around objections, donations and campaign news.

Save Cowal's Hills — Community Campaign Website

Save Cowal's Hills is a community campaign that has worked since 2015 to protect the Cowal peninsula's landscape from inappropriately sited windfarms. It currently opposes two proposals above Dunoon - the Giant's Burn and Inverchaolain windfarms, 20 turbines of up to 200m between them. A campaign site has a few jobs to do quickly: explain what's at stake, turn concern into formal objections, and raise the money to fight the case.

What We Built

  • The case at a glance - the scale of the proposals (turbine count, height, number of applications) set out as headline figures on the first screen.
  • A route to objecting - a dedicated objections page linked from the homepage, so concern turns into something that counts in the planning process.
  • Donations front and centre - a "Support Our Campaign" button in the header and a donation panel on the homepage, with both bank transfer and GoFundMe options.
  • The proposals, explained - dedicated pages on the proposals and a maps page, so visitors can see for themselves what is planned.
  • A campaign blog - a place for the group to post updates as the applications progress, keeping supporters informed and the site current.
