Photographer Website Design
Case study: a website for Scottish Highlands photographer Lewis James Phillips, combining portfolio galleries, an online print shop, tuition days and image licensing.
Lewis James Phillips — Photographer Website
Lewis James Phillips is a photographer, writer and lecturer based in the Scottish Highlands, working in landscape, wildlife and documentary photography and represented by Getty Images. A working photographer sells several quite different things - prints, tuition, commissions and licences - so the site needed to let the photography lead while giving each of those its own clear route to a sale or an enquiry.
What We Built
- Photography first - a full-screen image and a restrained black-and-white design that stays out of the way, with portfolio collections and open and limited editions a click from the menu.
- An online print shop - open edition prints and tuition days in one shop, with category views, price and date filters, sorting and a basket.
- Tuition days - one-to-one photography tuition and a film and large format day, each explained on its own page and bookable through the shop.
- Limited editions explained - the story behind the work, the film process, the print finishes and the certificate of authenticity, leading to a personal enquiry rather than a basket.
- Commissions and licensing - dedicated pages for commissioned work and the image archive, including a step-by-step guide to licensing an image.
- A mailing list - a newsletter sign-up to keep in touch with people who aren't ready to buy yet.
